This is a concept drawing from a project I never started called "8 Ways from Sunday", also referred to as "The Armadillo Project". It was to be a huge epic retelling of the Arthurian legend from the point of view of 8 principal players, each with a completely different narrative style, artistic style, and perspective on events.
I abandoned the project because
- It was going to be a heck of a lot of work.
- The story I had in mind didn't mesh at all with the reality of fourth century Britain.
- The story I had in mind didn't mesh at all with the actual Arthurian legend.
- I realized I really didn't give a crap about King Arthur.
Still, seemed a shame to let this, the best of the bunch, go to waste. The characters here are Herschel, a blacksmith, and Maisha, a dancer. They're two of Lancelot's four parents (Lancelot, in my story, was going to be raised in a sort of polygamist commune). The style is Vivienne's (The Lady of the Lake, Lancelot's other mother), there's lots of crosshatching and intricacy, focusing mainly on people and interpersonal relationships.
