Re: 217: I fully agree
You can't define community service as slavery for two reasons: 1 - You get to go home after you've completed your hours in the day - which you might argue that slaves in antiquity also had this right but it wasn't their own homes as much as it was homes rented for slaves, usually by the slave-owner...

Re: 923: Clones in Florenovia?
...Hah? The gist I'm getting is that Lily had Ellen write up a character for the wrong edition so that she has to make a character in one night, at speed, without time to do the math for proper minmaxing. ...Although that doesn't quite account for writing it in quadruplicate. :| I dunno. That's pre...

Re: morals vs ethics
My Ethics professor in college (though mind, this was *ehem*ty years ago and I may not remember accurately) defined them as morals are the rules for day-to-day living you (aspire to) follow, and ethics is the system of reasoning you use to create the rules.

Re: I Side With's 2016 Election Quiz.
Exact line of thought that landed us with a Prime Minister that sold away national funds to friends, was part of numerous corruption schemes (which I am surprised to say he is being investigated for and has actually been detained), pissed money away on superfluous infrastructure, and then proceded ...

Re: I Side With's 2016 Election Quiz.
Clinton may be corrupt and nasty, but she's corrupt and nasty in ways politicians have always be corrupt and nasty. At least we know what we're gonna get from her -- more of the same. Trump will be terrible in surprising and unpredictable ways. After Clinton, everything will be incrementally shittie...

Re: 884 - "I don't want to be the bad guy."
Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with you there, unless you can somehow explain why "humans are animals" isn't an essentialist(as opposed to existentialist) viewpoint that denies humans free will, responsibility, and the ability to consciously change by going against instinct and gut r...

Re: 883 Holy shit lily
This series of comics, and the ensuing discussion, has made me wonder, if according to people here, if is it possible for someone to genuinely care about about another person and show them kindness and generosity, and at the same time have some hope of an intimate relationship with that person? Or ...

Like I said, they can lay you off for any reason. Firing comes with consequences, especially ineligibility for unemployment benefits and severance, and must be with cause. That's why most employers are very fussy about documenting disciplinary actions. They want an airtight paper trail documenting y...

consists entirely of "you're fired"/"you can't fire me, I quit". ...actually, does that work in real life? I honestly don't know, I've never seen it done. Ooh, I actually looked this up once. Most times you can do it, but you'd have to be an idiot. Getting fired gets you unemplo...

Re: 878: Knuckleheads
And after spending the last fifteen years listening to feminists telling me that they don't hate men, no, of course not, whatever gave you that idea? They just hate everything about men. If we were completely different, they'd like us just fine! I'm curious, what intrinsic aspect of masculinity do ...
