Nina's "This Unit"?

So Lee told Nina to stop using "this unit", and Zoa asked about why Nina stopped using "this unit" ... but as far as I can tell, Nina was sometimes using "this unit", and sometimes using "I". So I'm a bit confused as to whether there was a pattern in when Nina was using "this unit". Anyone able to explain?
