Dragon Doctors Review

Post by Tailsteak »

I finished my review of Dragon Doctors, if anyone was on the fence of whether or not to read it...

Oh! I was reading DD a while ago, but I lost track of it after it moved and I couldn't find it again.
tl;dr version of the review (which I agree with completely): The art hasn't really improved much from start to where it is now, but story, characters, and world building are amazing. Wholeheartedly recommend it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go binge for a while to catch up from where I left off :P

Sounds interesting but I can't get past the art. I really appreciated the analysis though!

You think you can't get past the art, try being the idiot forced to draw this crap. :(

Meh. Don't get down on yourself. Anyone who can draw anything already draws better than most. Also:

I'd link something from Tailsteak, but it's less of a dramatic comparison given how frequently he completely switches styles between projects.

I always love watching the transformation powers of time and practice.

Sorry, I'm pretty sensitive about my shortcomings. "Oh, hey, they're talking about me, cool! ...and even the guy who likes me is talking about how my art is crap... Well, there goes my good mood for the day."

I've been extra sensitive about these things ever since a role model of mine told me I wasn't worth helping.. That crushed me so much it took the collective effort of my family, friends and every one of my fans to keep me going, and even then I need repeated cheerups every few days.

I'm a pretty goddamn fantastic writer, though. I'm pretty proud of that.

Questionable Content is my usual go-to example of this kind of thing. http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1 vs http://questionablecontent.net/

Also, sorry if my comments bummed you out, Speedball. Not everything is for everyone, and I may give DD another shot someday when I'm following less webcomics.

Comparing the first comic to the few most recent, I'm seeing definite improvement. Stick with it, man! The secret to success is doing what you want to do, as much and as hard as you can.

I've been having a hard time tracking who's who in the recent arc - not because of the art, but because too many transformations.

Thanks! Been super-depressed most of the last year, it's been a real struggle to do ANYTHING, but I'll keep at it. Haha.

Sorry. No more real cast change-ups planned for the next year at least. Sarin and Mori got big color makeovers, Aki and Goro are now very colorful mutants...yeah. Everyone was the same for so long...but this is a world where nothing stays the same forever.

I'm thinking of finally updating the cast page (so much extra work, uggghhhh) with images, but instead of regular character images it'd be a progression showing all the different looks they've had in the comic, ending with the most recent.
