That is because Trent is a manly-man, who is made out of 100% grade-A american steak and dirt, and he has no time for your feeble "emotions".

Now I kinda want to get 2 crazy people, one with a thousand-yard-stare and one with no concept of personal space, and force them to have a staring contest.

So I'm noticing a trend with Tailsteak's characters. At the start of the comic, I got a feel for the characters and an appreciation for most of them. But in some ways they seemed a bit too perfect. Jamie, for instance, started out for me apparently only a victim of bad circumstances. Nothing seemed to be his fault, he didn't seem to have any major character flaws, that sort of thing.

As the comic progressed, it became obvious that while Jamie has talents and skills, he is also occasionally incredibly rash, stupid, and doesn't filter his mouth. So I stopped being slightly annoyed by the fact that he seemed to perfect, because now obviously he's not. That whole stunt with getting info on the PCP thing? Incredibly foolhardy.

Now I'm seeing the same kind of thing here with Max. Max, until this story arc, was pretty loveable despite being... err... quirky. It's possible that this is just a bad day for her, and people do make mistakes, after all, even ones this horrendous. But it's a pretty major mistake to make, and I'm not even slightly okay with Max's reaction to the Simon and Trent thing.

So to my view, Tailsteak appears to be revealing the characters' flaws a bit more now that we're well-acquainted with them. The results are not exactly pleasant, but it does make the comic a lot more realistic.

I'm pretty sure I expressed a similar thought in another thread, that people seem to latch on to the first appearance of a character as the real or only or complete interpretation of their character, and any new information introduced later is out of characters, despite the fact that in reality it's just something the audience hadn't learned yet.

It's not really out of character. We have seen pretty much no evidence of Max respecting personal boundaries (sexual assault on Jamie the "first" time she met him), and stupidity flowing out of Jamie's mouth started in panel four of comic one...

I'm not really commenting on the psychological failing of first impressions or thinking the new information is out of character. I'm just mentioning that it's jarring, but not really in a bad way.

I don't really think this is out of character either, but some people seem to fixate on this one aspect of the character in their mind, and that's the be-all and end-all of that character. Which isn't entirely wrong, given the way a lot of shows do characterization, but it can be jarring when you switch to a work that has multifaceted (if not entirely realistic) individuals.

Her initial apparent disdain for Trent's feelings seems out of character considering her professed morals. That is, until you consider her cognitive biases ("the world would be objectively better is everyone was fucking everybody") and her lack if in depth communication skills.
