Is this a common thing in some places? I've worked several restaurant/food service jobs where people didn't get 40 hours a week, as far as I'm aware most of them didn't have a side gig.

Evidently "side-hustle" is a big-city millennials thing.
We used to just call that "having two part-time jobs".

Kd...yeah. You got it in one. And, I think the comic actually explained the origin of the phrase pretty well. People whose relatives were 'hustlers' inherited the phrase. That, or people who saw too much Zootopia.
