Snowy, I'ma stop you right there. You are using the wrong unit. Watts are a unit for transfer over time, joules are a unit of energy, e.g. A battery's lifespan is determined by how many joules are left in it.

What's wrong with a human body using 100 Joules per second on average?

My reasoning is questionable, but I definitely used the right unit. A normal human diet is 2000 kilocalories per day. That energy should get consumed and then burned relatively quickly - even if you're starving / overstuffing yourself, you can't keep it up forever.

An animal body is not comparable to a battery. It's more like an engine that needs to be refuelled every so often. It makes sense to talk about the amount of fuel currently stored in the engine, but here, we're considering the environmental impact of the engine, so it's more relevant to this conversation to talk about the rate at which that fuel is consumed.

And 2000 kilocalories per day = 8.3 megajoules per day = 100 watts, which is where I got the figure you quoted from.

Unforgivable!
Particularly considerign that so much of morality is emotional based 'not to hurt people' 'don't be mean' 'build community' 'listen' 'be humble', a logical answer doesn't present itself, the problems exist in an emotional framework.
